Custom Vacuum Insulated Glass for Heritage and High-Rise Projects

As global focus intensifies on energy-efficient construction and heritage preservation, the application of Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) is rapidly evolving. It is moving beyond standard windows and into high-end, bespoke sectors such as historic building restoration and super-tall curtain wall systems.

Through in-depth dialogue with our global clientele, we have found that beyond exceptional U-values and acoustic insulation, architects and engineers are increasingly focused on compatibility and safety within complex glass configurations. Key concerns often include: Can VIG seamlessly integrate with the aesthetic charm of heritage glass? How can the risk of spontaneous breakage be mitigated at the source? And can heat-strengthened versions be provided to meet specific curtain wall standards?

This article provides a technical breakdown of three high-frequency inquiries regarding LandVac, revealing the sophisticated engineering and customisation possibilities behind our high-performance vacuum glass.

Q1: Can VIG be laminated with heritage or restoration glass?

A: In most cases, yes. We can manufacture composite products that combine heritage glass with vacuum insulated units. Because heritage glass (Monumental Glass) often features unique textures or varying thicknesses, we invite clients to provide samples and technical parameters. This allows us to perform a formal evaluation and trial production to ensure a perfect bond and performance.

Q2: Can the finished vacuum glass unit undergo a Heat Soak Test (HST)?

A: No. The Heat Soak Test requires temperatures of approximately 290°C (to trigger the phase transformation of nickel sulfide). This exceeds the temperature threshold of our low-temperature metallic edge seal, which would compromise the vacuum integrity.

Note: We recommend that individual glass panes undergo HST before the vacuum assembly process to ensure maximum safety.

Q3: Can LandVac supply heat-strengthened (half-tempered) vacuum glass?

A: Yes. LandVac supports the customisation of heat-strengthened vacuum glass for specific projects, ensuring compliance with diverse architectural and safety requirements.
